Who is Amy? Where is she? What's she here for?
Oh, hello! I’m Amy Grass. You might be wondering who I am and what I’m here for.
Nearly thirty years ago, I was born on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Okay.
That is entirely untrue and it probably took you less time to figure that out than it took me to spell Mississippi. I was actually born in Chesterfield, MO, at St. Luke’s Hospital, but the river thing adds some intrigue, right?
Anyway, I was born here and was raised in a very small mid-Missouri town called Gerald (Hey, Mom and Dad!). I went to Owensville High School (Go Dutchmen! You odd mascot, you) and received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Southeast Missouri State University (Go Redhawks!) in 2013. Two weeks after graduation, I married an excellent man with an excellent beard and we’ve lived in South St. Louis City ever since. We have two cute kids and recently bought our dream home in Tower Grove South. I am a Missourian through-and-through.
Now, a bit about why I’m here.
I like making lists. To-do lists, Christmas lists, or lists of my favorite things. I love all of them. Except grocery lists. I hate grocery lists and I hate grocery shopping, but that’s a topic for another time. Because of my love for lists, you might be thinking that’s what you’ll find here. I could easily do that-- rattle off of all the best places and things in our fair city into a neat and orderly inventory. It wouldn’t be hard.
The thing is, dear reader, lists are everywhere. Many people have already written many of them and a quick Google search will confirm this. I love lists, but do you know what I love even more? Stories. Stories about people and places and hard lessons learned and funny things that happened. Stories connect us to one another and remind us of the good in a busy, hectic world. Stories don’t give quick answers or quick fixes. If you’re looking for those things, I suggest finding one of the afore-mentioned lists. Stories draw us in and send us out. They help us know we’re not alone.
This is a place to share stories. Stories about St. Louis and what makes this place so great. This city is part of who I am in a deep and meaningful way. I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
I’m Amy, and I’m here for this.
